HARVEST PLANK- 2012

After two nights of frost, I am faced with the realization that the garden is shutting down for winter. Only last week, I was harvesting basil and tomatoes for Caprese Salad and now both plants are crippled from the cold nights.

That said, I have decided to “harvest” the last of my late season produce and put it to use as a decorative reminder of the past year in the garden. I have created this year’s “harvest plank” as a centerpiece for the upcoming holiday season.

The centerpiece consists of pears, “Delicata” squash, assorted gourds, persimmons, kabocha, miscanthus, lavender, dried sunflower head, and quince.  The harvest melange sits on an old fence board which allows for easy re-location depending on the occasion.

Here is a close up of the same arrangement under different light.
